The Dutch colonial fortress at Galle — 35 minutes by road — is one of the great walled cities of South Asia. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, a working town, and a genuinely extraordinary place to spend a day.
The drive from the coast into Sri Lanka's Hill Country is one of the great road journeys in Asia — the landscape shifts from tropical coastal to cool green highlands within a couple of hours. We recommend at least one full day in the tea country: walk a working plantation, see how the world's finest tea is made, and eat lunch in Ella with a view of the valleys below. Our team will plan this properly for you.

Sri Lankan cooking is one of the great undiscovered culinary traditions in the world. This is your chance to learn it from the inside — from local cooks who learned these recipes from their mothers and grandmothers. A market visit, a session in the kitchen, and a meal you made yourself. Guests consistently tell us this is one of the highlights of their entire trip.
Duration – Half day · Arranged through the hotel
The waters around Mirissa are home to reef fish, rays, turtles, and — on lucky days — dolphins that follow the boats. We work only with operators committed to responsible marine tourism: no anchor dropping on reef, no touching wildlife, no single-use plastic on the water. The ocean here is extraordinary. Our job is to make sure it stays that way.

Some evenings, the best experience is the one you don't have to leave the hotel for. The sunset from our rooftop is, without exaggeration, something you'll describe to people for years. Mirissa Bay turning gold. The fishing boats heading out. The hills above the town catching the last of the light. Come up with a drink and nowhere to be. It's free, it's ours, and it's one of the best things we offer.
Year-round — the light is best 30 minutes before sunset. Ask our team for the exact time.

Sunsets in Mirissa are a daily ritual. The sun sets over the western horizon, usually between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm, depending on the season. Clear sunset views can be enjoyed from Coconut Tree Hill, Mirissa Beach, Secret Beach, and of course, The Loft’s own rooftop, where the elevated position offers uninterrupted views and a relaxed atmosphere without leaving the hotel.

Mirissa Beach is the main beach stretch, lively yet spacious, ideal for swimming, relaxing, and watching fishing boats return in the evening. It is located approximately 1 kilometre from The Loft, around 5 minutes by tuk tuk or 15 minutes on foot.
Secret Beach offers a quieter alternative, tucked away and more secluded. It is about 2 kilometres from the hotel and takes roughly 5 to 7 minutes by tuk tuk. Both beaches are best visited in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is gentler.
